2018 Peter Wetzer Furmint Tokaji
Undoubtedly some of the most transformative wines to come out of Hungary, Peter Wetzer works wonders in his home town of Sopron in the west of the country | Furmint and Blaufrankisch farmed by hand, Peter takes great care to produce refined, thought out balanced interpretations of these local varieties | Each year we get a limited allocation of his small production and no doubt we are forever grateful | Tuck in to discover wines you never knew you were missing
A new vineyard for Peter that he started leasing in the summer of 2015. 25 year old vines of Furmint from chocolate clay soil on volcanic subsoil. Whole bunches are foot stomped, crushed in vat, then basket pressed and barrel fermented on full lees in old Hungarian oak. Aged without racking and on its lees for 7 months and bottled by gravity without fining or filtration. Bottled with a slight spritz which lifts the drive through this mineral beast.
