2020 Jumpin Juice single vineyard Grenache
To support the rapid growth of production and range of Jumpin Juice, Patrick Sullivan and winemaker Xavier Goodridge have been working tirelessly to find great new sites to work with. In the process of doing so, Pat & Xav have found a couple of unique sites that they’ve longed to do something a little more serious with.
Made from 80 year old bush vines (hallelujah!) in McLaren Vale’s ancient sand on clay soils of Blewitt Springs, this is the kind of Grenache that could either be allowed to gently speak with authority about its terroir in a medium weighted, open and fleshy timbre or it could be made into a more classically McLaren Vale beast of an oaky bugger. I’m so glad the fruit got into the hands of Xavier Goodridge this year. It saw a long, cool and even ferment prior to eight months in old barrels. It is pure joy in the glass. Bright aromatics of cherry & raspberry and a faint dusting of spice. The palate is long generous and seamless. The structure of the fruit stands out first and foremost, a hallmark of Pat & Xav’s respect for expression of site outweighing a desire to build a wine of a certain shape.
