2022 GioVino Rosso
It's bright, fresh and lively and at just 11.8% alc it takes a chill quite nicely. Cranberry, Strawberry and tart black berries all inter-mingle with a saline edge and dried herbs. Bright and brilliant we say.
GIO is collaborative project between Dario Serrentino of Mortellito and QuelVino. Nero d’Avola picked early for low alcohol and blended with Grillo for acidity and freshness. Dario believes that the desert-like calcareous & limestone soils, and cool night air help temper alcohol, while giving freshness and a lifted brightness and tension, something unique for this typically heartier grape.
We visited Dario in May of 2023, and he is a total master at work. He is detailed and passionate, the land he cultivates in S.E Sicily is a wild, windy scape that is almost alien. Here, he makes magic!
