2022 La Madone Les Rougeots du Clos Gamay

This is juicy, interesting Gamay - from Loire. Bright, perfumed, vibrant red - perfect for summer! Elderberry, hibiscus, spice and white pepper. A very quaffable red - just in time for summer.

This Gamay is quite unique in the sense its from the lower Loire - which is much further south - and closer to Lyon and Beaujolais. It's from a single site - a one hectare vineyard that is planted with nearly extinct red fleshed clones of Gamay. Most wine grape varieties are white fleshed even when they're red varieties. There's also a Gamay cross in there called Gamaret - made in Switzerland in the 1970's. Because of this - it can't be from the more famous 'Côtes du Forez' appellation and is instead put under the IGP category.

We think it's a really unique expression of Gamay, and with climate change affecting many revered regions of France like Beaujolais - there are growers experimenting with more hardy clones and cross varities - so this could very well be an example of a wine you might find sometime in the future in the more famous appellations.

(We have used a lot of information from this wine's wonderful importer - Bibendum)
