2023 Joh Jos Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spätlese
J J Prüm is widely considered as one of the finest producers in the world of Riesling.
In Australia - we do have incredible Riesling, so it's not always convincing to try one from Germany at perhaps a premium price. We want to tell you - in this instance, it is totally worth it. Like drinking spring in a glass - these wines are a total expression of site that is quite unique to Mosel. They transport you. The 2023 vintage was also a remarkably good one, which is always nice to know if you'd like to hold onto a bottle, a good vintage is a good place to start - they're a 'mesmerising balance between elegance, freshness, racy fruit and savoury, slate-like minerality.'
Spätlese means these grapes were picked a little later than Kabinett, but fermented to almost completely dry. With this racy acidity, you would be hard pressed to call this off-dry. If you are a 'dry Riesling drinker' don't let these sometimes confusing catergories put you off - this should satisfy you well.

Or - hold onto this wine for a couple of decades and see where it's at! This wine could age for a considerable time. An excellent wedding gift perhaps?
