2024 Cobaw Ridge Syrah
Cobaw Ridge are absolute, total legends. Located in Macedon Ranges in Victoria - they do cool climate ever so well. Farmed organic and biodynamically their fruit is all estate grown and of exceptional quality. This year in particular has been absolutely stellar for them.
This is the first time since 2019 that they've made their iconic Syrah. Some very cool years means they've put this fruit mainly into their Il Pinko Rosé.
This is true, cool climate Syrah. It is not at all like the Barossa Shiraz we are all so familiar with. Silky and elegant, 'but with swagger too' as per Mike Bennie says.
With beautiful dark fruits like black cherry, blackberry, fennel, spice, cola nut, black olive and whisps of fresh cracked white pepper. There's the quintessential savoury, meatiness that forms the frame for this wine to hang it's spice, perfume and fruit from. This is so incredibly perfumed, it's intoxicating. Better than Baccarat Rouge...or even a newborn's crown. That's right. We said it.
Get yourself a bottle now - only about 3 barrels were made this year and who knows when it will be made next? Get a bottle for now, and for in ten year's time. It will only get better in that time.
