2022 Babche Wines Grenache
Grenache! Something we see a lot of - but expressed in SO many ways. This is a beautiful, pretty, lifted example of Victorian Grenache. With notes of violet, red fruits such as cranberry with a touch of savoury spice.
This site is 350m high up, on a bed of quartz, schist and clay. We like this - because the altitude extends the growing season for the grapes - which adds complexity, and I find quartz adds a beautiful lift and delicate perfume to reds, and the schist adds a silky (dare I say slate-like) texture to the wine.
Niki spent a lot of her youth in rural Macedonia with her grandparents who also made wine. Babche is a fond nickname for Grandma thus the nonna-centric labels. All of their wines are organic or biodynamic.
No Sulphur is added. Unfined, Unfiltered.
