2022 GioVino Orange
GIO is collaborative project between Dario Serrentino of Mortellito and QuelVino. 100% Catarratto, Sicilian native. Dario we visited in May of 2023, and he is a total master at work. He is detailed and passionate, the land he cultivates in S.E Sicily is a wild, windy scape that is almost alien. Here, he makes magic.
Catarratto is a native grape that grows exceptionally well in Sicily. At it's worst it can be blousy and boring, but at it's best...well - it's a total banger. This wine is juicy, with bright acid and a delicate play of pithy citrus, apricot and dried herbs. Excellent on its own or with food.
