2022 GioVino Rosso II
A new addition to the Gio Vino - this is Nerello Mascalese from western Sicily. Elegant, bright and crunchy with a splash of minerality to keep it interesting. Perfumed with dried flowers and herbs and juicy cherry. A seriously excellent drop - we can see why they're producing two reds now.
GIO is collaborative project between Dario Serrentino of Mortellito and QuelVino.
We visited Dario in May of 2023, and he is a total master at work. He is detailed and passionate, the land he cultivates in S.E Sicily is a wild, windy scape that is almost alien. Here, he makes magic!
Where: Val di Noto, Sicily, Italy
When: 2022
What: Nerello Mascalese.
How: On it's own or with something with middle-eastern influence like a chicken tagine. Oof.
