2022 Quealy Splendido Sparkling
Some of us have been quite lucky to have visited Quealy in Boon Wurrung - Mornington Peninsula. It started at an Australia tasting in London 10 years ago and has now ended up here on the other side of the world with us at Ok. Wines.
Quealy were planting Italian varieties long ago - when you'd find Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as a dominating force on the Mornington Peninsula. They've planted Moscato Giallo on their Balnarring plot in 2014, it's fully organically certified and in 2021 they switched from making this as a pet nat to traditional method - like champagne.
This wine is cracking - like other moscato varieties expect perfume and sunshine in a glass, but no insipid sweetness. This works for a moscato drinker - but also everyone else who doesn't like moscato because of the sugar. Floral, bright and zesty this is an easy drinking wine for sure.
